Media Literacy Projects
Create a graphical representation such as a mind map or flowchart that summarizes the key elements of your experiences. Ensure that the representation is clear and understandable. Here are the experiences: For my future role as an educator, the insights gained from the course are particularly valuable. Topics like cyberbullying, fake news, and excessive media consumption are ones I want to incorporate into projects. One idea could be a "Media Literacy Week" in kindergarten or elementary school, where children learn to critically question and consciously use media. The topic of beauty ideals in social media seems especially important to me. Children and adolescents need to be made aware early on of the impact of unrealistic images. Creative projects like collages or discussions about self-image and diversity could be supportive here. Excessive media consumption also poses a significant challenge in practice. I plan to develop approaches to help children find a healthy balance between media use and other activities—such as media breaks or targeted alternative activities like playing, crafting, or singing. Finally, the topic of big data is also relevant for young children. Even at the elementary school level, it can be taught in a playful way how personal data is used on the internet and how to behave safely online. I see great potential here to promote early media awareness and understanding of data protection.
