Zarqa's Visionary Tale
Zarqa al-Yamama is a legendary figure from ancient Arab folklore, associated with the region of Al-Yamama in the Arabian Peninsula. She was renowned for her incredibly sharp vision, capable of discerning objects and events at a distance of three days. Her nickname, "Zarqa," refers to her large blue eyes, which added to her mystique. The most famous story of Zarqa al-Yamama tells that she spotted an enemy army on its way to attack her tribe. These cunning enemies had camouflaged their soldiers and equipment with tree branches to resemble a moving forest. Despite their ruse, Zarqa managed to detect their presence and warned her people of the imminent danger. However, her tribe refused to believe her warnings, thinking she was exaggerating or delirious. The enemy army took advantage of this disbelief to attack, massacring many members of the tribe and destroying their homes. According to legend, the invaders, fascinated by Zarqa's visual abilities, gouged out her eyes after their victory. Today, Zarqa al-Yamama is a symbol of clairvoyance and wisdom, but also a reminder of the importance of listening to those who have a clear vision of things.
