How to design a great Fakemon

What makes a fan-made Pokémon look like it belongs in the games, whichever generator or pencil you use.

Start from one real thing

The most memorable Fakemon are one idea you can name in three words: a fox made of lava, a jellyfish lantern, a cactus hedgehog. Pick an animal, a plant or an object first, then decide what makes it strange.

Let the type explain the body

A type should be visible, not just stated. A Fire type needs its flame somewhere it makes sense, like a tail tip or a mane; a Water type gets fins, a sheen or a shell; a Ghost type fades at the edges.

Keep the silhouette simple

Official designs read from their outline alone. Aim for two or three main colors and one standout feature, such as oversized ears, a crest or a tail, so the creature is recognizable as a shadow.

Plan the evolutions together

A baby form is round and soft with big eyes; the final form is larger, sharper and more detailed. Keep one feature the same through every stage, like the tail tip or a marking, so the line reads as one creature.

Give it a reason to exist

A single Pokédex line about how it lives makes a design feel real: where it nests, what it eats, what happens when it is happy. Write that line before you settle the colors.

What the Tangra AI Pokémon generator draws for you

Your pet, as a Pokémon

Drop in a photo of your dog, cat or hamster and the creature keeps its colors, markings and face.

A whole evolution line

Baby, Starter and Fully evolved from one idea, each with its own Create button on this page, so the next stage is always one press away.

Its own Pokédex entry

A number, a category, height, weight, an ability and two lines of lore, written from your picks and ready to share.

Yours to keep

The original creatures you design are yours. Download them in full size, share them or print the trading card.

Frequently asked questions

What is the AI Pokémon Generator?

An AI tool on Tangra that designs an original Pokémon-style creature, often called a Fakemon, from your choices. You pick one or two of the 18 types, a stage from baby to legendary and an art style, say what the creature is inspired by, and Tangra AI draws it in seconds. The prompt it builds is shown on the page, so you can change any word before you create.

What is a Fakemon?

A Fakemon is a fan-made Pokémon: an original creature designed in the style of the games, with its own type, evolutions and Pokédex entry, that does not exist in the official games. The AI Pokémon Generator on Tangra makes Fakemon from a few picks or from a photo of your pet.

How do I create my own Pokémon?

Pick a type (or two), pick a stage and an art style, and write what it is based on, for example "a fox made of lava" or "my golden retriever". Press Create: the Tangra AI image app opens with the prompt ready, and your creature appears in seconds. Change the stage and create again to get its evolutions.

Can I make a Pokémon based on my pet?

Yes. Add a photo of your pet in the "Start from a photo" step and it goes to the app as a reference picture: the creature keeps its colors, markings, ears and face. Without a photo, describe your pet in the inspiration box, with its animal, its colors and one thing that makes it recognizable, like a white paw or a bent ear.

What is the evolution line?

Turn on "Create the whole evolution line" and the page writes three prompts for the same creature: Baby, Starter and Fully evolved. Each stage has its own Create button, which opens the image app in a new tab, so the generator keeps the line and the next stage is one press away. A photo you added is used for every stage.

What is in the Pokédex entry?

A Pokédex number (the count of creatures designed on Tangra so far, plus yours), the name, a category such as "Lava Fox Pokémon", the type, height, weight, an ability and two or three lines of lore. It is written from your picks the moment you make them, goes on the trading card as flavor text, and copies to the clipboard with one press.

Is it free?

Signing up is free. Each image you create uses a few credits, depending on the AI model that draws it. Credit packs and plans are on the Tangra pricing page.

Which dual types make the best Fakemon?

Pairs whose looks combine in one body read best: Fire/Flying for phoenixes, Water/Ghost for jellyfish, Grass/Ground for cacti, Electric/Steel for robots. Pick up to two types in the generator and the prompt describes how they blend.

Which types and art styles can I choose?

All 18 types: Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel and Fairy, alone or as a dual type. Five art styles: classic game art, anime scene, 3d render, pixel sprite and plush toy. Any of them can be framed as a trading card.

How do I make my own Pokémon card with AI?

Turn on "Make it a trading card" in the Pokémon card maker, give your creature a name, and press Create. The image comes as a full-art card with that name, HP that grows with the stage (40 for a baby, 220 for a legendary), a type symbol, two attacks named after its types and its Pokédex lore as flavor text. The card preview on the page shows all of it before you create.

Which AI model draws it?

By default the app picks a model suited to character art. You can switch to any of Tangra's image models in the settings panel, for example GPT Image, Flux, Nano Banana or Seedream, and create the same prompt again to compare.

Can I use the creatures I create?

Original creatures you design are yours to download, share and print. Pokémon, the names of existing Pokémon and their likenesses belong to Nintendo, Creatures Inc. and GAME FREAK inc.; an image that reproduces one of them is fan art for personal use.

Is Tangra affiliated with Pokémon or Nintendo?

No. Tangra is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Nintendo, Creatures Inc., GAME FREAK inc. or The Pokémon Company. This page helps fans design creatures of their own.
