Breaking Free in Big-Band Swing
Jazz vocal ballad that builds from a slow, sultry start to a triumphant big-band finish: a powerful, soulful female voice over a lone walking bass line, then bold brass stabs, swelling horns and a steady swing. Bluesy, confident and liberating, with lyrics about breaking free and starting over.

Lyrics
Left my keys on the counter,By the stack of unpaid bills.Took the long way past the station,Past the shops and over hills.I didn’t pack a suitcase,Just the clothes upon my back. Finally stopped the engine,At the end of every track.I’m walking out the door.New shoes on the floor.I’m walking out the door.Don't need that anymore.Found a bar with blue curtains,Where the gin tastes like a dream.Traded in my old perspective,For a brand new color scheme. No one knows my surname,Or the house I used to keep.I’m trading all those worries,For a night of honest sleep.I’m walking out the door.New shoes on the floor.I’m walking out the door.Don't need that anymore. The rearview mirror’s tilted,Just to catch the morning light.Whatever was behind me,Disappeared within the night.I’m walking out the door.New shoes on the floor.I’m walking out the door.Don't need that anymore.Just walking.Fresh start.New day.
